What is Min depth?
The Min or Minimum Depth for a product is the depth required to mount the product. If there is only 3/4 of an inch at the top of the window opening where the product can mount, we’ll not be able to recommend a product that requires 1 1/2” of depth to mount. If you don’t have the depth needed for the product desired, you can alternatively try mounting the product outside of the window opening on the wall above the window. You can find more specific information about the product you’re interested in on the Specifications tab on the product page.
What is Flush Depth?
Flush Depth is the amount of space required to mount the product and not protrude (stick out) from the window opening. Typically, a blind will have a valance, which mounts onto the front of the blind’s headrail. This is factored into the flush depth; you’ll be able to mount the full product into the window opening and have a beautiful finish at the top with a valance without sacrificing any aesthetics.
If you don’t have the Flush Depth mentioned on the product page in the specifications, you can still install it if you have the Minimum Depth, see above for more info.
Why is depth important?
Depth will determine whether the product you’re interested in can be mounted inside the window opening or not. This will affect all the products on the website (except products that are outside mount only).
For example: A shutter has some depth that is required to mount the product, but there are some special considerations that need to be made. Can the shutter tilt into the window? Louvers will tilt back into the window opening due to the panel placement on the frame. If there isn’t enough depth, the product will not tilt.
While depth is important for an inside mount, it can also affect outside mount installation, depending on the window opening. See Bay Windows or Corner Windows.
