To determine that your window is deep enough for your shutters to be inside mounted, simply measure the depth from the glass to the outer edge of the trim or window casing. Be sure to clear all obstructions that may impede the louvers from operating properly.
For faux wood shutters, if your depth is 2 1/4" or more, inside mount is recommended; if less, outside mount will be required.
For wood shutters, if your depth is 1 3/4" or more, inside mount is recommended; if less, outside mount will be required.
Faux Wood
- A minimum recess depth of 2 1/4" is required for a 2 1/2" louver.
- A minimum recess depth of 2 3/4" is required for a 3" louver.
- A minimum recess depth of 2 7/8" is required for a 3 1/2" louver.
- A minimum recess depth of 3 1/4" is required for a 4" louver.
- A minimum recess depth of 3 1/2" is required for a 4 1/2" louver.
Wood
- A minimum recess depth of 1 3/4" is required for L-Frame with a 2 1/2" louver.
- A minimum recess depth of 2 1/4" is required for L-Frame with a 3 1/2" louver.
- A minimum recess depth of 1 1/2" is required for Z-Frame with a 2 1/2" louver.
- A minimum recess depth of 3 1/4" is required for Z-Frame with a 3 1/2" louver.
Measuring the Width
-
Measure the exact width (left to right) of the inside edge of the window frame in three places (top, middle, and bottom).
-
Record the smallest width of the three measurements.
- For 1/16” or 1/32” increments, round down to the nearest 1/8”. (For example, if the smallest measurement is 24 9/16," round down to 24 1/2". If it's 24 3/8", no need to round down.)
- This is the width you will order.
Measuring the Height
-
Measure the exact height (top to bottom) of the window opening in three places (left, center, right).
-
Record the smallest height of the three measurements.
- For increments of 1/16” or 1/32”, round down to the nearest 1/8”. (For example, if the smallest measurement is 24 9/16," round down to 24 1/2". If it's 24 3/8", no need to round down.)
- This will be the height you will order.
We’ll handle any necessary deductions based on the measurements you provide, so there’s no need to adjust your own measurements. Don’t add to the width in anticipation of deductions. We’ve got it covered!
