Light Filtering
Light Filtering products and liners are designed to gently diffuse natural light while still maintaining daytime and nighttime privacy. These fabrics soften incoming light to create a warm, inviting glow without completely darkening the room.
Room Darkening
Room Darkening products and liners are designed to significantly reduce incoming light when fully closed, without completely blocking it out.
These options are commonly made with layered or tightly woven fabrics, such as dual/zebra shades and sheer shades, which overlap to create a room-darkening effect. Some fabrics may still allow a small amount of light to pass through. All products categorized as "blinds" are considered room-darkening because light can pass between the slats or vanes, even when tilted fully closed.
Room Darkening products provide enhanced privacy and can also help improve insulation and reduce glare.
Blackout
Blackout products and liners are made with fabric that blocks light from passing directly through the material. However, some light may still enter around the edges of the shade. This is commonly referred to as the “halo effect.”
To help minimize light gaps, we recommend:
- Choosing an outside mount
- Ordering the shade at least 4" wider and taller than the window opening
- Adding a cassette valance for roller shades to reduce light at the top of the window
Blackout products are ideal for bedrooms, media rooms, and other spaces where maximum light control is desired.
Total Blackout
Total Blackout products are designed to provide the highest level of light control by blocking light both through the fabric and around the edges of the shade.
These systems use blackout fabric combined with additional light-blocking features, including:
- Cassette headrails
- Side channels or tracks
- Bottom tracks with mohair seals
Together, these components help prevent nearly all light from entering the room for a true blackout experience.
Total Blackout products are ideal for home theaters, nurseries, bedrooms, offices, and any space where complete darkness is preferred.
